In a game situation, the keeper has to decide when to stop and switch into a defensive reaction. This drill coaches the right timing and forces the keepers to restart the game quickly.
Pro-Tip by Peter Rasch
Everything is included in this exercise: flat balls, leg work, continuation of play! I also like to start this exercise with back passes instead of low shots. The exercise also works wonderfully with up to 8 goalkeepers. If there are only 2 goalkeepers, only one side is trained and then the side is changed accordingly. The highlight of this exercise is when you as the trainer stand 2-3 m in front of the goalkeeper (with your back to the goalkeeper and your view to the other goalkeepers) and let the next goalkeeper in line throw you the balls above your head. Now I fake the balls with the heel, the head or my hand!
With passion and attention to detail, we've transfered our best drills into a unique and world-class set of training programmes designed to help experienced goalkeeper coaches and ambitious club coaches.
In 2014, I first asked Peter what it would take to have all his goalkeeping experience in a unified drill and video database. Now we're finally here and fortunately, I have no idea how many thousand working hours exactly went into this project.
